I hate being in the middle of things.

I know that relative to the actual situations i am referring to, i am not in a particularly terrible position, and it would be slightly selfish to say otherwise, and i am glad to have friends, but there is only so many times you can say to someone “i don’t know what to say” before feeling completely feeble. Usually that number is in single digits.

If one of my friends could do me a favour and have an argument or a conflict with someone i am in no way emotionally connected to, that would be great, just so that i can actually say “she sounds like a bitch”, or “he sounds like a dick” and not feel bad about it at all.

Research Seminars

So i have been going to our university library late at night sporadically throughout this past week to get Research Seminars write ups done, and of course, i have procrastinated quite a lot, and usually done about half an hours worth of work in a two hour library session, and i have noticed some general facts about late night library work:

-While Wikipedia is not a particularly credible source of information, it is good for finding out some basic facts, but also very good for procrastinating, for example, the other day i was doing a write up about teaching, and ended up reading more about Gestalt Psychology, which is strange, because i am studying Music.

-It is necessary to spend 10 minutes trying to find the right music to work to.

-Talking to your friend about unfortunate names (eg. Richard Head, Ben Dover) is definitely a relavent topic.

-Burying your head in your hands and thinking about giving up completely is a ritual you will quickly become familar with.

-If i wrote as frequently on my essay as what i do on facebook or tumblr, it will be done in no time.

10. Mr Bungle

What was the first song you ever heard by 1 & 6?

David Bowie-Starman (i think)

Koan Sound-Funk Blaster

What is your favorite song of 5 & 10?

QOTSA-River in the road (at the moment, it always changes)

Mr Bungle-Squeeze me macaroni

What kind of impact has 1 and/or 9 left on your life?

I used to listen to David Bowie a lot when i was a child, looking through my parents’ record collection, and i would think he was one of the first rock (lets not split genre hairs) artists i listened to, and ever since he has always kind of just been ‘there’ in my music tastes, and i regularly go through phases of just really loving his stuff, and now is one of those times.

What are your favorite lyrics of 5 & 8?

“Can you see under my thumb? There you are.”

For Zappa, just all of i am the slime.

I dunno, i don’t ever have any specific favourite lyrics from bands, never few enough to narrow down anyway.

How many times have you seen 4 & 7 live?

Neither, i wouldn’t mind seeing Mastodon, but i would be afraid that Brent Hinds’ singing might destroy my brain. As for Kyuss, they don’t really exist anymore, unless you count Kyuss lives, but whilst i hear they are good, it just isn’t the same without Josh Homme bashing out riffs, although i think if the space/time continuum ripped apart and he did ever play with them again, i still don’t think it would really be the same as he has moved on musically in quite a big way.

What is your favorite song by 2 & 6?

Warpaint-Bees (dat bass, man)

Koan sound-Funk Blaster

Is there any song by 3 & 8 that makes you sad?

Nope, it is quite difficult to feel sad whilst listening to Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, and all of the Zappa songs i have ever heard are just mad, so there isn’t much room for sorrow.

What is your favorite song by 1 & 9?

David Bowie-A toss up between Ashes to ashes and Starman at the moment.

APC-Gravity (at the moment)

When did you first get into 2 & 7?

I think i got into Warpaint about a year ago maybe, i always heard one of my housemates listening to them, but never really went out of my way to do so, then at a party i listened to them properly and was entranced. As for Kyuss, i can’t remember how old i was, but at some point after i got into QOTSA, i got into Kyuss, i would say when i was 16 probably.

How did you get into 3 & 4?

Hypnotic-I saw them on Jools Holland, i liked it.

Mastodon-I think someone just recommended them to me.

What is your favorite song by 3 & 4?

Hypnotic-Alyo

Mastodon-All the heavy lifting at the moment.

What is a good memory concerning 1 & 10?

I don’t really have any good memories concerning them unfortunately, they are just bands that i listen to and i enjoy them

Is there a song by 2 and/or 7 that makes you sad?

Warpaint-Undertow (a bit)

Kyuss-Super scoop and the mighty scoop a bit.
